The tray was presented to Christian Petrie of Fetlar when she was working as a maid for Sir William Watson Cheyne. She disturbed burglars one night in one of his houses (Beechgrove, Aberdeen), and prevented anything from being stolen. A number of the family photographs for that year are taken at Beechgrove, and can be seen in the albums in the Sir William Watson Cheyne exhibition at Fetlar Interpretive Centre.
