| This coin (2 kopecks) is marked 1841 and dates from the reign of Tsar Nicholas I of Russia, and is likely to have been brought to Brough Lodge (where it was found amongst the collection taken to Fetlar Interpretive Centre) by Arthur Nicolson, builder of Brough Lodge. He travelled extensively in Europe in the early 1800s, and is known to have been in Russia. See previous image for other side of coin. |
