Fids
Wooden "fids" (the metal versions are called marlin spikes).

a) 30cm long; 4cm diameter at top.
b) 20cm long; 3.5cm diameter at top
Fids were used for splicing rope at sea. These particular fids were salvaged from the wreck of the Johan Caesar, a Hamburg barque which sank off Aith, Fetlar, in 1868.
