Late 1940s
c.61cm tall x 22cm wide at base x 21cm wide at widest part of top
The hat came from Seafield, Fetlar and was made by Jimmy Hughson in the late 1940s. As a child, he had been one of the skeklers in the 1909 photograph taken at Brough Lodge, and made the replica in the 1940s although it was never actually used. He had intended to make the whole costume, but never did. Shetland oats was used as a material for making the costumes as the straw was more pliable than other straw.
